In April 2010 the Illinois Business Roundtable (IBRT)
issued
Modernizing the Illinois Telecommunications Act: A Rationale
for Renewal. We urged updating telecommunications
regulation to new realities in technology and in the marketplace.
The General Assembly overwhelmingly approved, and the Governor
signed into law The High Speed Internet Services and Information
Technologies Act in June 2010.
In May
2011 the IBRT issued a similar report, entitled
Smart Regulation for an Illinois Smart Grid: Modernizing
Illinois' Energy Deliver Network and Its Regulation,
advocating streamlining electric utility regulatory procedures in
order to stimulate investment in modernizing the electricity
delivery system.
Released in October 2011,
Senate
Bill 1652: Smart Government, Smart Grid, Smart Business,
addresses the continuing debate over SB 1652 which the IBRT, with
the Illinois' economy and job growth as its focus, has been involved
in leading to passage by the General Assembly. We urge the
final enactment of SB 1652 into law!
