Robert J. Currey
Economic Growth Task Force Chairman
Bob Currey is a
30-year veteran of the telecommunications and cable industry.
He currently serves as President and CEO of Consolidated
Communications, Inc.
Previously
he served as Vice Chairman of RCN Corporation, Chief Executive Officer
of 21st Century Telecom Group, and as Group President,
Telecommunications Services and a Director of McLeodUSA.
He served as President of Consolidated Communications from
March 1990 until CCI merged with McLeodUSA Inc. of Cedar Rapids,
Iowa, in 1997.
Prior
to his involvement with CCI, Bob served as Senior Vice President-Operations
and Engineering for Citizen’s Utilities Company and had previously
been Executive Vice President of US Sprint, and Senior Vice President-Operations
for United Telecommunications, Inc.
In 1996, he
was named Chairman of the Illinois Coalition, a non-profit
organization of business, government, academic, and labor leaders
that promotes technology-based economic development in Illinois. He has also served as
Chairman of the Board of the Illinois State Chamber of Commerce.
He currently serves on the boards of the Illinois Business
Roundtable and the United States Telecom Association.
Mr. Currey
received his bachelor’s degree from
Michigan
Technological
University
and an MBA from
Eastern Michigan University.
