EDUCATION
FOUNDATION INITIATIVES
The Illinois Business Roundtable Education
Foundation continues its two-pronged focus on improving the quality
of our teaching workforce and improving school performance
information systems.
Commitment to Education Best Practices and Data Based Decision
Making
Best Practices
In 2004, the IBRT Education Foundation started
its first year of support to the National Center for Education
Accountability/Just for the Kids website. This site, in addition to
providing school performance data in easy to use formats, features
Best Practices studies of Illinois Schools done by a team of
Illinois State University researchers. In 2004 Best Practice studies
were done in elementary schools, in 2005-middle schools. Illinois
State University is completing the high school visits in the spring
of 2006 and fall of 2007.
Similar research has been completed in over 20 states. Illinois and
other states’ Best Practice studies are available as a link from the JFTK-Illinois site.
Workkeys®
We are continuing to enhance our
web-based efforts on school performance by working with School Data
4 All, Inc. to report
Workkeys® results for all high schools
in Illinois. Currently
2003-2004, 2004-2005,
2005-2006 and 2006-2007 Workkeys®
results are reported and able to used by both professionals in
the education and business sector.
School Improvement
School Data 4 All, Inc. also provides an online
school improvement plan. The School Improvement plan is being
upgraded once again based on requests and feedback from the
educators who are using the plan.
Student Data
Again in 2007, the IBRT Education Foundation is
working with School Data 4 All by financially assisting schools to
offset the costs of putting their assessment data on the
School Data 4 All's Student Performance
site.
SD4A’s Student
Performance section enables teachers, administrators, and school
districts to successfully manage, analyze, report, and apply data at
the classroom level to their school improvement initiatives. It
empowers school administrators and teachers to find the information
that will help them make real change in the classroom. SD4A’s
Student Performance section provides educators with a visual
explanation of student demographic categories, such as Gender, Free
and Reduced lunch, race, and time spent in the district, which
directly relate to many of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB)
initiatives. Educators are able to sort by these demographic
categories to examine students based on NCLB criteria.
A unique feature of the Student Performance
section of the SD4A site is the ability to track individual students
overtime. Once a school has loaded more than one year of data into
the system, teachers can see the progress of a particular student in
all of their assessments.
Training
In addition to financial assistance, the IBRT
Education Foundation pays for the schools that are sponsored with
data cost loads, to also be trained. Through these trainings,
over 3000 teachers and administrators are gaining access and
knowledge to the websites supported by IBRT including
www.schooldata4all.org and
www.just4kids.org. This unique training feature
continues in 2007-2008. For more information on training please
send an email to:

What They Are
Saying
“Illinois Business
Roundtable's Just for Kids Project provides information that allows
teachers to analyze testing scores of all students in the district.
Normally you have access only for the school where you are teaching
making it difficult to compare test scores across the state. Just
for Kids Project web site allows us to study the entire spectrum of
scores to look for patterns as we make choices about improving
teaching and student learning. Teachers can then further search the
web site for best practices used by other high performance schools
for new ideas to help as we work to improve weak areas.”
~National Board
Certified Exceptional Needs Teacher, 2004
“The training
provided by the Illinois Business Roundtable Education Foundation is
an excellent tool for initiating school improvement, curriculum
mapping and identification of weaknesses in specific subject areas.
In addition, identification of weak skill areas of individual
students, including those with special needs, is extremely valuable
for creating a plan for improved student success. For teachers and
administrators, the ability to access best practices of successful
schools, similar in size and demographic make-up to our own school,
provides an excellent resource for improving our school and our
students’ learning. The support of the Illinois Business Roundtable
through training sessions such as this one and their continued
support of National Board Certification for teachers is a positive
influence on education system in Illinois. As a teacher, I value
the efforts of the Illinois Business Roundtable as partners in the
improvement of our education system.”
~National Board Certified Science Teacher,
2003
“The academic performance of any group is
improved “one child at a time.” SchoolData4all is a valuable tool
that has made it possible for Macomb CUSD #185 to “load” several
years of achievement data from state and nationally-normed
assessments onto the password protected web site. Our teachers can
access academic achievement trend data for individual students and
can make informed decisions about the instructional program they
deliver to each child based what they know about the academic
performance of that student over time. SchoolData4all is one more
venue for helping teachers help students to achieve!”
~Fran Karanovich, PhD, Superintendent,
Macomb CUSD # 185
“I was impressed with the Administrators
looking at the District data and how each Principal moved directly
to the data for his or her own school. They looked at classroom data
and then data for each student and could identify quickly with each
student and that student's needs or strengths. The immediate
acceptance of accountability was evident and the desire for all
their staff to be trained as soon as possible so they could start
working to fill in the gaps and make necessary changes.”
~Norm Jones, Retired CEO, GROWMARK, IBRT
sponsored training attendee

Commitment to Teacher Excellence
In 2004, the IBRT awarded over $135,000 in
scholarships support for teachers who seek to become Nationally
Board Certified, bringing our total scholarship commitment over the
past three and a half years to well over a half million dollars.
These funds, leveraged with state support, have grown the national
board certified teacher core in Illinois from 35 in 2000 to 1,555
currently. In addition to funding these scholarships throughout
Illinois, IBRT members hosted recognition dinners around the state
for those teachers who received their National Board Certificate in
2003 and 2004.
